Ship weather check

Marine weather along your route

Check the route before you commit to it: the forecast wind and waves along the passage, live storms against your itinerary, and what a deviation would cost.

Weather forecast along the route

The weather check looks along the selected route, the voyage's own sea route, and shows the strongest wind, gusts, wave height and swell forecast for the coming days, and where they fall, so a rough stretch shows up while the plan can still change. On the map, the current wind speed and direction show along the way.

Storm warnings on your itinerary

Stowlines keeps monitoring live tropical storms against your itinerary and warns you when a leg or a port falls in an alert area, with the dates, so you can allow for delay or deviation before the ship sails.

What a deviation costs

The deviation calculator shows what a change to the planned route adds: the extra distance and days and the extra cost. A weather margin on the voyage shows the effect of bad weather on the days and the fuel burnt.

A marine forecast along the shipping route

Ocean weather forecasts for ships are most useful where the ship will be. The check gives a ship wave height forecast and a vessel wind speed forecast along the sea route, port weather along the rotation, and a route alert when a storm comes near. It is a quick vessel route risk assessment before the voyage is fixed.

Weather routing, with the planner in charge

Stowlines does not choose a weather route for you. It shows the weather on the route you plan, and you compare the alternatives: another route, another speed or a later departure. Each comes with its days, fuel and cost, so weather-based ship route planning rests on real figures.

FAQs

Ship Weather Check, answered.

How do I calculate a vessel's weather deviation cost?

Add the deviation to the planned route in the deviation calculator: it shows the added distance and days and the extra cost of the voyage.

Is this weather routing?

It is a weather check, not automatic routing: it shows the forecast and the storms along the route you plan, and you decide. You can then compare another route or speed in the estimator.

What weather does it show?

Wind and gusts, wave height and swell along the route, for the coming days, and live tropical storms.

Does it steer the ship around a storm?

No. Storm avoidance stays with the master and the operator. Stowlines shows the storm against your itinerary and what a deviation would cost.

How does weather affect fuel consumption?

Rough weather slows a ship and adds to its burn. The estimator's weather setting adds a margin to the sailing, so you can see the effect on the days and the bunkers.
